Rejoice English speakers – Netflix Poland has opened its virtual doors for business, ushering in a new era of on-demand English language content. It’s been a game-changer in other countries.
No ads.. yay!
“Good news! Netflix is now available in Poland. Now you can enjoy TV shows & movies on your TV, computer, phone and tablet. Watch as much as you want, whenever you want. Plus, there are no ads or commercials.”
Crucially, the service streams everything in original language, and is made up in the main of English language content. Netflix are known for also creating original content in their host countries, so expect to see some Polish content in the future.
Price – What does Netflix Poland cost?
On launch day, beyond the free trial they have three price tiers.
1 screen: €7.99 per month
2 screens, “standard” level: €9.99
4 screens, “premium” level, with HD and Ultra HD: €11.99
Time saved in advert watching
According to Business Insider in November, cable companies in the US in the face of 50,000 customers a month leaving, are finally accepting consumers don’t want ads and are cutting back on advert time.
Since 2009, the average “ad time” per hour on cable has gone up from 14:27 to 15:38, according to Nielsen. Broadcast TV has seen a similar bump, going from 13:25 to 14:15 minutes per hour. And cable channels have actually sped up re-runs to get two minutes more of advertising per show.
On the assumption Polish cable has around the same amount of advertising time, if you were to watch Netflix for just 1.5 hours per day, you would not be seeing 23.25 minutes of advertising. Seven days a week, saves you 162.75 minutes. 52 weeks a year, it’s 8463 minutes, or 141 hours / 5.87 days. That’s a very long time to enjoy not watching adverts.

And once you get used to ad-free viewing it’s extremely hard to go back to a network with the impertinence to stick ads in your face, especially when you are already paying them.
It’s also worth noting that Netflix is dominated by TV serials, the movie content is actually quite thin. You will find some great Netflix-made content from the beginning, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Hemlock Grove, Jessica Jones, Narcos, Daredevil, the list goes on. Netflix have also taken over and breathed life into some existing classics, Arrested Development, Longmire, Trailer Park Boys.

It can be viewed on a number of devices and is included with built in apps on many modern TVs. Resolution can be tuned from low SD (300MB/hr) all the way up to 4k where possible.
