Barack Obama wants to talk with the Polish President about the Constitutional Tribunal and the controversy arising over the issue. Apart from that, they are going to discuss bilateral relations of the states and important investments from the past and those planned for the future.

Apart from both presidents, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and National Defence and the closest advisers of the Heads of States are going to participate in this meeting, – says Krzysztof Szczerski, a Minister in the President’s Office.

Problems with the East

There is going to be another meeting on Thursday afternoon: Andrzej Duda invited the Secretary General of NATO – Jens Stoltenberg. Polish Minister of National Defence – Antoni Macierewicz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs – Witold Waszczykowski, and the Chief of the National Security Bureau – Paweł Soloch, are also going to attend the gathering.

The issues concerning potential danger coming from the East and from the South, including vital decisions about strengthening the allied forces on the eastern NATO borders and the further extension of the alliance were announced as the main points of the upcoming talks.

The summit in Warsaw is going to be a continuation of the 2014 summit in Wales, when NATO undertook some preventive measures and ordered an increased operational readiness at the eastern flank, – explains the US Ambassador to NATO, Douglas Edward Lute.

What about the Varsovians?

NATO summit is planned for this Friday and Saturday. The local people of Warsaw have already been experiencing its consequences. State of alert was introduced in the whole city: drones, balloons and other light aircraft cannot operate in the region under any circumstances, the commercial air traffic is going to be limited as well. The AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) and VJTF (Very High Readiness Joint Task Force) planes are going to monitor Warsaw from above.

Additionally, almost the whole city centre is going to be excluded from traffic (Śródmieście, Praga-Południe, Wola and Ochota) – buses, trams and trains are changing their routes. American Secret Service agents are going to monitor the area from rooftops and on the streets, manhole covers are going to be sealed and all bins are going to be removed from the streets. Everything to protect all these VIPs.
